The Charity Commission’s 2023 Annual Return identified circa 171,200 (91%) of registered charities in England and Wales with an annual return of less than £1 million. This analysis underscores how deeply rooted small charities are within our communities and the vital role they play in society. Small charities understand local needs, cultural nuances, and gaps in public services and, as such, can adapt quickly to changing needs, deliver high-value and targeted support, boost social participation and engagement, and provide a voice to those who might otherwise be unheard.

Small charities hold huge potential to grow their reach and deepen their impact, but many struggle with limited funds, visibility, and recognition. We aim to support small charities in breaking through these barriers, turning resource challenges into opportunities to champion their cause and create lasting change for their communities.
